The Throne is an American hip hop supergroup formed in 2011 consisting
of two rappers, Kanye West and Jay-Z.
The Throne has released two singles: "H•A•M" and "Otis".
The group released their debut album Watch the Throne on August 8,
2011, and are currently scheduled for a North American tour beginning
in September of 2011, nearly ten years after their first-ever collaborative
effort.
The rappers first worked together in 2001 on the September album
The Blueprint, which featured Kanye's voice appearing in Jay-Z's
music for the first time. Further collaboration between the two led
to the single Izzo (H.O.V.A.).[5] Before The Throne, they also worked
together on numerous other singles such as "Swagga Like Us", "Run
This Town" and "Monster."
On July 25, 2011, it was announced the two had formed a group, which
they called "The Throne", and that this group would go
on a North American tour to promote a new album where the two of
them would exclusively collaborate with each other as they had never
done before.[8][4]. Originally intended as a five-track EP by Jay-Z
and West, Watch the Throne was revealed by West to be a full-length
album in an October 2010 interview for MTV.[9][10] The album also
features guest appearances by recording artists Beyoncé, Frank
Ocean, and Mr Hudson.
Singles Before the official formation of the group, two singles
were released by the pair. The first, from January of 2011, was called "H•A•M",
and debuted at 23 on the Billboard Hot 100.[12]. The second single,
released in July 2011, was "Otis", which sampled Otis Redding
and received reviews from critics praising it for its use of soul.
