He was a "straight A" student in high school.[3] Kendrick
Lamar released his first mixtape, Youngest Head Nigga In Charge at
the age of 16 under the name K. Dot in 2003 which got him buzz in

EP.[5] In late 2010 he toured with Tech N9ne and Jay Rock on The
Independent Grind tour.[1] On September 23, 2010 he released a mixtape
titled O(verly) D(edicated).[6] He has worked with Dr. Dre and Snoop
Dogg on Dr. Dre's Detox album.[1] This came after Dre stated he would
like to work with Lamar on Detox and Lamar's upcoming debut album
titled Section 80 which will be released in 2011.[7] He has hinted
at signing to Aftermath Entertainment.[8] He and J. Cole plan to
release a collaboration mixtape in the future.[9] In January 2011
Lamar said his debut album was 90% finished.[1] He was featured on
XXL Magazine's 2011 Freshman cover along with Cyhi Da Prynce, Yelawolf
and Big K.R.I.T. among others.
"I treat every project like it’s an album anyway. It’s
not gonna be nothing leftover. I never do nothing like that. These
are my leftover songs ya’ll can have ‘em, nah. I’m
gonna put my best out. My best effort. I’m tryna look for an
album in 2012,” Lamar revealed.
[edit] Personal life
Unlike most Compton-based rappers Kendrick Lamar was never in a
gang, remaining neutral. Even though he is not affiliated, some of
the rappers he raps with are gang affiliated.[1]
