Laurieann Gibson (born July 14, 1969 in Toronto, Canada) is a creative
director, VMA-winning choreographer, and Emmy-nominated director
best known for her work with Lady Gaga, Diddy and Keri Hilson.
She rose to public prominence as the star of MTV's Making the Band
and P. Diddy and Mark Burnett’s Starmaker series. Gibson
was also a "Fly Girl" on the popular TV series In Living
Color.
From November 21, 2010 to December 21, 2010, she was a judge on
ABC's Skating with the Stars. Gibson will star in a second reality
competition show for BET called Born to Dance which will debut on
August 2, 2011.[1] Gibson was recently named creative director of
Interscope Records Group (IGA). Gibson is also the star of a new
E! networks reality show currently titled The Dance Scene, which
focuses on her life as a choreographer in the entertainment industry.
The 8-episode show is produced by Ryan Seacrest and first aired on
April 10th.[2]
Gibson has choreographed several of Lady Gaga's music videos including "Bad
Romance" for which she won a 2010 Best Choreography VMA award.
In October 2010, Gibson directed her first music video, “The
Way You Love Me” for singer Keri Hilson. In 2011, Gibson collaborated
with Gaga to direct the music video for "Judas", and remarked
that she herself is Christian and that the meaning behind the music
video is not blasphemous.[3] In February 2011, Gibson directed the
HBO special Lady Gaga Presents the Monster Ball Tour: At Madison
Square Garden, for which she received an Emmy nomination.[4]
The film Honey was based on her life.[5] She was the choreographer
for the film, teaching Jessica Alba to dance for the title role and
also acted in the film as Katrina.[6]
Gibson's catch phrases "Boom Kack!" "Shine On" and "Disrespectful
Fuks" have become popular with her fans (whom she refers to
as Dream Warriors) throughout the world.[7]
