Picnic : Origin of the word

On the net, there are plenty of speculations about the origin of the word "picnic".
According to some, it would come from the expression “pick a nigger”,
it would go back to the segregation area where Americans had the habit (or tradition)
of selecting a black man in order to lynch him.

Scenes like this can be seen on the movie « Rosewood ».

(Of course those facts are not officially recognized but I wanted to let you know…)
