John West is an R&B singer signed to Mercury/Island/DefJam. His first release, an EP featuring three songs from the upcoming album, will be available on iTunes come August 2, 2011.

West was born on May 11 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He attended Columbia College in Chicago where he studied English and Art and planned to pursue a career in cartooning. After college, John returned to Los Angeles to focus on his music career.

West started as a busker on the 3rd Street Promanede in Santa Monica, CA where he sold over 35,000 CD's.[citation needed] He went on to sell out shows at popular Hollywood venues including the world famous Roxy Theater, Key Club, and Troubador. West's talent quickly attracted the attention of many record label executives and in August 2010, West was signed to Mercury by the president of the label, David Massey. John's first release, 'Lovely' featuring Pusha T debuted on Vibe.com on March 23, 2011.

Since being signed, Westhas worked with Brian Kennedy (Rihanna), Ari Levine of the Smeezingtons (Bruno Mars, B.o.B), Kevin Rudolf (Lil Wayne, Leona Lewis), and the Stereotypes (Far East Movement), among others.

West has been recognized by the LA Times and featured in USA Today as a 'pick of the week'.

West will be going on tour with Patrick Stump (lead singer of Fall Out Boy) in August 2011.
